About

The teacher-child relationship at Montessori Children's House of Sycamore and DeKalb can be compared to that of a piano teacher and her student. The teacher shows the child how to hold his body, instructs him on the notes, shows him finger exercises, and then leaves the child alone to practice. Only through practice can he become a pianist.

So it is with our students. Our Montessori teachers are experts at providing scaffolding for students while still allowing them to discover and learn independently. The teachers demonstrate how to use the materials, then guide and direct while allows practice time without interrruption. The child’s accomplishments do not depend upon her teachers, but upon what she herself has done. What a great feeling!

We encourage and help children develop self-discipline, self-knowledge, and self-confidence. At Montessori Children's House of Sycamore and DeKalb we want your child to become increasingly independent and coordinated, with refined concentration skills, an enthusiasm for learning, and an organized approach to problem solving and critical thinking. A lot for a young child? We don't think so!
